About Me

My name is Abiegail Paicaglino Dizon a 24 Years old Filipina and the owner of Miss-Asian.com. There is just so much goodness out there and I want to share it with the world, and possibly squee along with fellow fans. I discovered the amazing world of Kpop and Korean drama around September 2009. The first Kdrama I watched was “Playful Kiss” closely followed by “Cinderella Man”. It was thanks to the Idols who stared in the later that I discovered K-Pop. Im Yoona from Girls Generation and Dara from 2NE1. Not long after I discovered 4 Minutes and Orange Caramel, again thanks to their members starring in drama. T-ARA quickly stole the top place in my heart and shall forever remain there.

About K-pop

K-pop, or Korean Pop, K-pop is a musical genre originating in South Korea but has spread across Asia (and now the rest of the world). It is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements. Although it comprises all genres of "popular music" within South Korea, the term is more often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music covering mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc.

Exponents of the genre have attracted a fanatical following in recent years, though western audiences could be forgiven for not being entirely au fait with K-pop until this year.

The movement has largely been driven by the internet with every wannabe artist in the world having a platform to showcase their abilities. Though instant stardom is not guaranteed, the internet has played a major role in the spread of the Korean Wave (which describes the rise of Korean music and entertainment business) and has unearthed many new stars.

Undoubtedly the biggest of these is PSY, but he is not the only one to enjoy significant success in the charts.

It went to number one in 27 countries, including Australia, the UK, Germany and PSY's native South Korea, and was assured its place in history when US President Barack Obama revealed he was to privately perform ‘Gangnam Style’ for his wife Michelle. Scooping gongs at the American Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards, Gangnam Style was not only the biggest K-pop song of the summer, but the biggest K-pop hit ever.

Every Kpop fan has their favorite group, and for those who are really very familiar with Kpop, they even have favorite groups in each genre.

Music artists and celebrities who are fans of K-pop include:

Grimes: According to Grimes, K-pop has influenced her musical style "more visually than anything else".The Canadian singer is also known to be an admirer of Big Bang's G-Dragon.

Nelly Furtado: During an interview with the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, Furtado pointed out that there has been a "big K-Pop explosion" and that she has been closely following the development of K-pop over the past few years. She expressed an interest to collaborate with Big Bang's member T.O.P, and also admitted to being "obsessed" with the K-pop genre.

Dakota Fanning: In early 2013, Fanning sparked a media frenzy in South Korea for being a fan of G-Dragon. Her movie Now Is Good also features a collaboration with Ailee.

A*M*E: According to A*M*E, she first discovered K-pop when her older sister showed her a music video by Big Bang and told her to "listen to it with an open mind", and she "absolutely loved it from the first moment". As a result, K-pop has influenced her music style. In 2013, she co-produced the single "Need U (100%)" with Duke Dumont, which "blends her beloved K-pop into Dumont's house music", according to a music critic from Fuse TV.

Pixie Lott: The British singer-songwriter's first contact with K-pop bands took place during a trip to Japan, and she "just loved the whole vibe of it". Lott also considers herself to be a "big fan" of Big Bang, and the Japanese edition of her second album Young Foolish Happy contains a version of "Dancing on My Own" which features band members G-Dragon and T.O.P. She also wrote the song "Baby Maybe" for Girls' Generation's fourth album I Got a Boy.
